"ATRAPADO" or "TRAPPED" is a collaborative piece with the artist Fatima Oviedo. It follows a Chinese dragon's evolution from containment to chaos and, ultimately, to freedom.

Set to "Blodfest" by Danheim & Heldom, "ATRAPADO" is the opening act of "RAGE," an audiovisual piece created in collaboration with Camila Elorriaga, Andrea Flores, Mariana Flores and Linnete Juárez.

The piece seeks to embody the emotion of rage through three distinct acts.

3D Sculpting

For the Chinese dragon, we chose a traditional style amd decided to sculpt it to create a more detailed and organic result.

3D modelling

For the assets, we chose to model traditional Chinese jewelry, objects, and furniture.

Texturing

We styled the assets to appear traditional and aged, with a dusty, worn quality.

For the Chinese dragon, we designed a detailed, scale-covered texture in green to contrast sharply with the warm palette of the scenes.

Assets texturized by Fatima Oviedo and me in Adobe Substance 3D Painter.

Animation and Simulations

For the animation of the Chinese dragon, we went through different stages. At first, we tried using motion capture (MOCAP); nevertheless, the results weren't organic enough, so we opted to animate it by hand.

For the simulations, we created collisions with the earrings and necklace, used RBD Material Fracture for the shattering window glass, and Vellum Cloth for the curtain dynamics.

Animation, simulations, remeshes, rigging, weights, UVs, materials, and rendering made in Houdini by Fatima Oviedo and me.
